Monthly Archives: November 2011

Opinion is divided.  I love them.  My sister says “they’re very niche” – yes that’s ’niche’, not ‘nice’.  My mum thinks “it’s a lovely idea”.  Gala likes the colours and Arthur likes the dangliness.  What do you think?

I mentioned before about the lovely buttonholes I made for my wedding last year, and then after lots of searching, I found this photo showing them all off in their colourful, feathery, ribbony, flowery, buttony, pinwheely glory…

…everybody wore one, even baby Arthur…

I’m just about to start on some pinwheel bunting – will show you my progress later.

I’m really excited by these!  I’ve been working on them for ages to get them just right and here they are at last…

They’re going to be available from www.dorothyandtheodore.com, a lovely website selling gorgeous things for your home – check them out

You may remember that I bought some gorgeous gorgeous fabric recently and wasn’t sure what to make with it?  Well, it became cushions for our bed and I love them!  They are so fresh and vibrant and really cheer up our already jolly room!  I tried out a new design using this gorgeous flowery heart fabric and stitched birds, but it’s not quite right yet.  Bobo and Stanley are irrelevant to all this of course, but adorable none the less…

I’ve just finished a commissioned papercut and thought I’d show you my process….

The hardest part of it is drawing the design as you have to work it in mirror image so it shows the right way round when you’re finished.  I’ve got used now to writing backwards, but I still need to check it in a mirror before I start cutting.  The pesky Ns and Ss often find themselves round the wrong way.  With this design, I need to also check the arrow ends up pointing at the right word – in this case “lovely”.  One slip of the scalpel and it could end up reading “I Think You Are Lovelorn”.  So, carefully carefully cutting out, making sure to leave the middle of the a’s, o’s and loops.  Carefully carefully…. and with a bit of slicing and carving and cutting and dicing, it’s done…..

…and available to buy in your choice of adjective from my shop!

Christmas is coming!  Really?  Already?!  Apparently.  Anyway, I’m featured in the Dorset Magazine ‘Gifts for Girls’ Christmas edition so it must be true…

Oooh, what a lovely cushion....

Oh I’m so cross!  I’ve got so many new and lovely things to show you but something funny’s happened to my blog menu and I can’t upload any new photos.  I’ve emailed the people who run the internet and am waiting for their reply, but in the meantime, here’s some old photos.

I so wish I’d been doing this blog thing when I got married last year as I just had such fun making loads of different things for it, including these lovely buttonholes…

I made more than enough for the number of guests we had and each one was different – some even had lovely spotty feathers in.  When people arrived for the wedding everybody got to choose which one they’d like to wear and then got to keep it…

Another new screen print I’ve been working on this week – One for sorrow, or these two little chaps for joy!  I love the layout, but I think I’ll work it in two colours to make the black magpies stand out…

Snap them up for Christmas!  My new hand-pulled ‘Grasses’ Screen Print is available now to buy from my shop for just £18.  It comes in a limited edition of just ten so get them while you can.

I’ve had the Neiphlings, Arthur and Gala, round to play today.  We had a lovely time watching the boats out of the window, baking biscuits (no ta-dah photos – we left them in too long!), eating lunch, watching a  film in front of the fire and making a necklace for Aunty Jess’s birthday…
