Monthly Archives: December 2011

I don’t know why but Christmas seems to have taken me by surprise this year. It’s on the same day as last year as the year before as every year, yet two days to go and we don’t have any presents or food for the big day.  Luckily, the husband and I both enjoy a last-minute rush so we’ll be out and about in town tomorrow having a Christmas Eve bustle.  I have managed to get the mantlepiece looking exceptionally festive though…

Do you remember I showed you this a while ago? Well look at it now!  I love the faces, I love the zingy colours, I love the stars, I love the words, I love it all!  I want to sail away with them into the night while the owl serenades me…

I think I may be addicted to making cards….

Well who’d have thought you could have so much fun with a box of cocktail umbrellas!  I started with the Cocktail Christmas Wreath and loved it so much I made two Cocktail Christmas Pom Poms.  The colours and the shapes and the way the light shines through them is just magical…

Fa la la la laaaaa, la la la la….

We had the most perfect Christmassy day yesterday choosing and decorating our tree, making paperchains and watching White Christmas, just to get us in the mood. It was soooo stormy and blustery and wavy outside in the bay, and so toasty and festive and cosy in our house. Can you see the white horses through the window? I tried and tried to get a lovely angel for the top of our tree but couldn’t find the perfect one, so we went for a Christmas Parrot this year – doesn’t he look jolly!

…Sally, who commissioned 21 hand cut cards…

I’ve had such a busy and fun week making Christmas commissions for sending all over the world.  It’s so exciting to think of happy little things I’ve made that are now sitting on walls and beds and sofas in America and Denmark and Australia!  I can’t show you all of what I’ve been up to as lots of it is secret present stuff, so you’ll have to make do with tiny weeny tantalising close-ups.  Up first - some Papercut commissions…

Next, I’ve been making lovely lettered bunting for Dorothy and Theodore.  You buy the letters you need and then it all buttons together…so when no-one’s looking you can make anagrams too!

My screen printed birdies finally got their legs this week.  These happy little chaps are available to buy as cards (£2 each or 3 for £5) or as an A4 size screen-print on lovely heavy paper and in a choice of colours for £6…

And lastly – I’ve been commissioned to make an Owl and the Pussycat fabric picture and am super excited about it.  I’ve been meaning to make one for ages and I’ve got as far as the sketch so far for the customer to approve.  Imagine how amazing it’s going to look in fun fabrics!!!!  This is only a part of it, you wait til you see it finished….

Even the left overs from printing are wonderful….

After a day spent drawing, cutting, stretching, sticking, mixing, scraping, drying, washing and drying again – these aren’t the screen prints I planned to show you at all.  The designs I’m working on are quite complicated so I thought I’d do a trial run with a simple design just to check the colours and transparency of my new inks.  Not only are they not the designs I’ve been working on, but they didn’t turn out how I expected.  But that’s the lovely thing about hand printing, you never quite know what you’re going to get, and I think these little birdies are gorgeous, even though they’re not quite what I had in mind…

I’m just about to unveil a fabulous set of screen-printed cards I’m working on, but in the meantime here’s some gorgeous things to feast your eyes on.  Lovely flowers, blankets, views, colours and light…
